Ramadan Block Watch

Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP) selected key blocks in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood that were prone to violence and Project Restore Industries supported and secured the blocks during the evening hours from 8pm-2am.  During the Ramadan vigil, we stood on the streets with our uniforms, radios, and the mission of “making sure this block is safe for the  night.”  SWOP did door knocking, had food delivered, as well as a basketball rim.  People came up to Project Restore Industries members and said they had never been out on their porch at night before. The project provided a sense of safety and reclaiming the neighborhood.
